PROJECT MANAGERS GIVEN UNPRECEDENTED ACCESS TO PRINCE2® PRACTITIONER QUALIFICATION VIA PRIOR LEARNING

Project managers worldwide – for the first time – will be given greater access to the PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification based on their prior learning and achievements with specific project management professional bodies.

AXELOS, the joint venture company responsible for PRINCE2 and other Project and Programme Management (PPM) products is now recognizing other qualifications as a route to Practitioner level rather than the previous, mandatory requirement for the PRINCE2 Foundation qualification.

AXELOS will recognize previous qualifications awarded to Practitioner candidates by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the International Project Management Association (IPMA) including its local chapters from 01 July 2014.

Frances Scarff, AXELOS Product Development Director, says: “We are committed to supporting the needs of the Project Management Practitioner community and feel it is right to recognize previous project management expertise as part of a more direct route to the higher level PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification.

“With this initiative, we hope that project managers worldwide will consider how obtaining this higher level best practice management standard can improve project management within their organizations and develop their own careers without having to revisit a more elementary level of study beforehand.”

PRINCE2 (PRojects IN Controlled Environments), is a widely used project management method that takes practitioners through the essentials for running a successful project.

In 2013 more than 80,000 Foundation qualifications and more than 60,000 Practitioner qualifications were awarded worldwide.

From the 1st July, AXELOS will recognize candidates holding the following qualifications:

Project Management Institute (PMI) – details at www.pmi.org:

• Project Management Professional (PMP)
• Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)

International Project Management Association (IPMA) – details at http://ipma.ch/:

• IPMA Level A® (Certified Projects Director),
• IPMA Level B® (Certified Senior Project Manager)
• IPMA Level C® (Certified Project Manager)
• IPMA Level D® (Certified Project Management Associate)

A candidate must be able to provide the Examination Institute with details of their certificate for the related qualification when signing up for the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam in line with the standard rules relating to exam pre-requisites.

AXELOS will engage with the global project management community through a variety of mechanisms to publicise details of this additional route to PRINCE2. In particular, members of the AXELOS Global Partner Programme who wish to be part of a joint marketing campaign will receive the necessary support.
