COBIT 5 Foundation (Public Session – Mauritius)

Course Overview:

COBIT 5 is the only business framework for the governance and management of Enterprise IT. This evolutionary version incorporates the latest thinking in enterprise governance and management techniques, and provides globally accepted principles, practices, analytical tools and models to help increase the trust in, and value from, information systems.

COBIT 5 builds and expands on COBIT 4.1 by integrating other major frameworks, standards and resources, including ISACA’s Val IT and Risk IT, Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) and related standards from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

COBIT 5 helps enterprises of all sizes:

  • Maintain high-quality information to support business decisions
  • Achieve strategic goals and realize business benefits through the effective and innovative use of IT
  • Achieve operational excellence through reliable, efficient application of technology
  • Maintain IT-related risk at an acceptable level
  • Optimize the cost of IT services and technology

COBIT 5 helps enterprises create optimal value from IT by maintaining a balance between realizing benefits and optimizing risk levels and resource use. The framework addresses both business and IT functional areas across an enterprise and considers the IT-related interests of internal and external stakeholders. Enterprises of all size, whether commercial, not-for-profit or in the public sector, can benefit from COBIT 5.

Course Outline:

This course prepares participants for the COBIT 5 Foundation exam that is written at the end of the course. With an understanding of the COBIT 5 Framework, participants will be able to identify and apply the COBIT 5 components in their business operations and IT activities. This course is recommended for IT professionals working in IT governance, management, operations, enterprise architecture, information security, compliance, assurance and audit.

Who should attend?

The course is suitable for Business Managers, Chief Executives, IT/IS Auditors, Internal Auditors, Information Security and IT practitioners, Consultants and IT/IS Managers requiring an insight into the enterprise governance of IT and who may also be requiring certification as a COBIT 5 implementer or assessor.

  • How the COBIT 5 processes and the Process Reference Model help guide the creation of the 5 principles and the 7 governance and management enablers
  • The basic concepts for the implementation of COBIT 5
  • The basic concepts of the new Process Assessment Model
  • The COBIT 5 guides and how they interrelate.

The course also prepares attendees for the APMG COBIT 5 Foundation (optional) examination which is typically scheduled on the final afternoon of the course.

Structure and Content:

The course comprises lectures, group discussion, assignments, a sample examination paper and other guidance to prepare attendees for the COBIT 5 Foundation examination. The course activities are reinforced through the trainer’s proven implementation track record. The course content is based on COBIT 5, including the framework and other supporting documentation.
